“So, stay wake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.”
Matthew 25: 1 – 13
Today’s parable is a rich and profound teaching from Jesus about readiness, vigilance, and the nature of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The wise virgins were prepared for the bridegroom’s arrival, while the foolish ones were not. This preparation is vital. We must be like the wise virgins, having our “oil” – our faith, our good works, our relationship with Christ – ready and abundant.
Jesus calls us to be vigilant because we do not know the day or the hour of His return. This vigilance is not a passive waiting but an active, dynamic readiness. It involves daily commitment to faith, living the gospel, and moral readiness.
The parable also teaches us that spiritual preparedness cannot be borrowed or transferred. The wise virgins could not give their oil to the foolish ones. Each of us is responsible for our own spiritual condition. Our relationship with God is personal, and we must nurture it individually through prayer, reading Scripture, and living out our faith in acts of love and service.
