“You make them twice as much a child of hell as you are.”
Matthew 23:13-22
Brothers and sisters, remember this idiom? “Misery looks for company!” The Scribes and Pharisees, like many today, are trying to mislead people from the true message of God. In that way, their own faults will be hidden in the masses and their selfish needs will continue to be fulfilled at the cost of another man’s salvation. How deceived are we, when we are unaware of who we are in Christ and the knowledge of His word!
The gospel reminds us that as persons of influence we should not use our power and authority to exploit the poor and the needy. But even now, power is inflicted through control, manipulation and narcissism, which is love unto self. Jesus emphasized that the temple and the altar sanctify the gold and the gift, not the other way around. Who in our midst right now, is trying to take our eyes off of the bigger picture of faith and righteousness? Beloveds, watch the actions of those who contradict the teachings of our Lord and are cheating us of a higher nature.
