The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
“And how does this happen to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
Luke 1:39-56
As a busy, working, single mom, some alone time to pray can be challenging; but the opportunity presented itself to me, recently. I made a quick dash up to Mt. St. Benedict.
After I had lit my candles before the statue of our Lady of Fatima, I knelt before it. I have always felt mesmerized by this statue as its life-like appearance makes me feel like our Blessed Mother is actually there.
That day, I pondered about how hurt Mary must be feeling about the outrages and blasphemies committed against her son and all I wanted to do was to console her- mother to mother- just as she and Elizabeth consoled each other.
Our Lady’s assumption into heaven unites her wholly to her son, and her visitation today is an enlistment into her army. She is raising a powerful army and calling us to repentance and conversion. She wants her army to offer many acts of mortification in reparation for sins committed against her Son.
Mother Mary, Teach me to console Jesus.
