‘Woman, you have great faith. ‘
Matthew 15: 21-28
Today’s Gospel reading demonstrates the power of faith. The woman, a Canaanite, was considered an outsider, or what today we would call a protestant. Jesus seemed to be ignoring her and told her, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.’
That, however, did not stop her from pleading but only made her persevere. Jesus, then seeing her faith, granted her wish.
Often, we call on Jesus for help when we are in need, and he seems to be ignoring us. Sometimes, we plead for days and there seems to be no answer. This story shows us that we must be strong in faith and never give up.
Jesus often tests our faith to see if we are sincere and eventually, we will hear him say, in our hearts, ‘You have great faith. Let your wish be granted.’
Lord, give me the strength of faith to always persevere.
