Tuesday July 30th: It is our call!

“The sower of the good seed is the Son of man.”

Matthew 13:36-43

Initially my attention was drawn to the perpetrator who maliciously sowed darnel among the good seeds. I felt righteous indignation at his evil intent. However, on closer reflection my sights were set on the sower of the good seed, Jesus Christ, whose sowing is founded in love and whose intention is that everything planted should flourish and bear rich fruit.
Despite the visible signs of darnel as manifested in societal ills, there is so much evidence of the work of the upright that “shine like the sun.”

Our saints who light up our pathway emerged in spite of the darnel which grew alongside them. In our own time there are countless men and women whose lives give credence to the intention of the Son of Man.
It is our call to emulate them and, where possible, commit to watering and nurturing others through loving support, encouragement and patience. In this time of synod, through intentional discipleship, let us thrive profusely, giving the lie to the negative elements that threaten the handiwork of the Son of Man.
