On Sunday July 28th the Universal Church celebrates grandparents and the elderly.
We extend our appreciation, particularly to those grandparents who have also served as educators and leaders, shaping the minds and futures of our youth. It is with great pride and respect that we honour the past principals of Sacred Heart Boys’ RC School, also known as Western Boys’.
One such remarkable individual is Lucille Eleanor Douglass. Douglass began her journey at Sacred Heart Boys’ RC January 14, 1952, as a dedicated teacher. On September 1, 1969, she took on the role of Vice Principal. Her journey of excellence continued when she became the Principal on February 2, 1983.
She formed the school choir in 1983 and led and encouraged many activities, such as the revival of the Annual Speech Day, awards for Environmental Sanitation Competition and Reading Competition, champion in interschool sports meets, and best Agro Industry Exhibit in 1985.
Lilia Niles also started as a teacher in 1976 and taught for 23 years. She was appointed Principal in 1992. She initiated the School Rebuilding Fund and promoted cultural transformation with activities such as the J’Ouvert band, Carnival bands, Calypso competitions, Sports Day, Music Festival, Parang Festival of Carols, and Nine Lessons of Christmas at the Sacred Heart Church.
Patrick De Silva became Principal in September 1999 to January 2004. His tenure included administration during the demolition of the old school building and return to a new school.
Kathleen Campbell-Douglas also taught at the school, became the Vice Principal, then acted as Principal. She made significant impacts on students’ achievement, spiritual development, parent and community relations, and discipline.
Their contributions extend beyond the classroom and into the hearts and homes of the pupils they have inspired with unwavering dedication to fostering a nurturing and effective learning environment. They not only imparted knowledge but also instilled values that have stayed with their students long after they left the school.
