The Parish of Our Lady of Montserrat, Tortuga recently hosted its Harvest Festival at the grounds of Sacred Heart RC, Gasparillo on
July 7. It was a joyous and fun-filled celebration.
The day began with Holy Mass celebrated by parish priest Fr Shijomon Zacharias MSFS. Deacons Simon Rostant and Ian Bourne assisted.
The homily set the tone for the festivities ahead, a homily that had the entire congregation in stitches. But jokes aside, the congregation was left with a quote that would make an impression on everyone, “Are you strong enough to be weak or are you weak enough to be strong”.
Fr Shijo effortlessly tied humour with a thoughtful reflection, prompting both laughter and self-reflection while keeping with the theme of the harvest Therefore, turn to God in Prayer with Faith.
After Holy Mass and the blessing of the stalls, the harvest commenced. From the moment people arrived, they were greeted with open arms and wide smiles from all stall holders. Each stall was beautifully decorated, no doubt attracting the attention of everyone.
With every endeavour, there will always be challenges or obstacles to overcome. A momentary interruption in electricity threatened the festivities. Undeterred, organisers and local law enforcement quickly rectified the situation and got the music going, ensuring that the harvest celebrations continued.
Our harvest at the Parish of Our Lady of Montserrat is a beacon of community, strength, resilience, and unity. The harvest culminated with everyone having fun and dancing the night away with family and friends. A true festival celebrating the bonds that bring us together in joy and happiness.
