“What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.”
Matthew 10:24-33
I always felt that as Catholics, we didn’t do ‘evangelisation’ well. However, in recent years I have seen a slight shift. In 2023, Pope Francis, beginning a new series of catechesis focused on evangelization and apostolic zeal, said that sharing the faith is the “oxygen ” that “invigorates and purifies” Christian life.
I admire other faiths who hit the streets, telling people about the God they serve, and even convincing lukewarm Catholics to join them. I love being a Roman Catholic, believing wholeheartedly in our liturgies and rich traditions. Why then is it so difficult for me to “proclaim from the rooftop”? Am I afraid of “those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul”?
Though God has been ‘whispering in my ear’ to start Lectio Divina sessions at work, I consider myself new to the organisation, so I find reasons, or rather excuses, to ‘chicken out’.
Lord, I am grateful for your love. I believe in the one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church with Peter as the foundation rock. Help me to shout it out from the rooftop without fear.
