Sts Peter and Paul
“But you, who do you say that I am?”
Matthew 16:13-19
Jesus wants a personal relationship with us. Each day He asks us the question, “But you” …
Maybe, we can have in-depth discussions because we’ve read a whole library of sacred books by all the great church doctors and theologians, or we are well informed on church history and Canon Law and can share details of many of the Pope’s letters. Yet every day Jesus is probably asking us, “But you,” or “Who am I to you?”
We’re quick to quote others and their journey, but isn’t it funny how quiet we become when we are asked to spontaneously share a testimony? The disciples were very vocal when Jesus asked them what people were saying about Him. However, nobody but Peter responded to the question, “But you” How about us? What will our responses be?
I pray that our words and actions reflect Peter’s response to Christ’s question, and others through our witness, would know that to us, He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
