“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. “
Matthew 6:24-34
“Consider the lilies of field,” and the following words are deeply etched in my memory. These are the first words of scripture I learned. My siblings and I had heard them almost every day. I had often wondered why my mother repeated them so often. Prayer wasn’t strange to our home, but those words made me know there was much more going on.
As I grew older, I came to understand that in times of great need, when she didn’t know from where would come the next meal, she would start her mantra. As we grew older, she would always advise, “Don’t worry. Pray.”
She lived this scripture. She trusted God and was completely dependent on Him to provide for our family. God was the centre of our lives, and He provided more than we needed. There was always enough to share with others who lived nearby. We lived a simple but happy life.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your provision. May we always “sing of the goodness of God”
