Unexpected Deeds Plant Purposeful Seeds

By H. B

When my mum started working in an outreach initiative for the community, she occasionally found herself needing a companion for her duties. One day, due to the unavailability of other members, she asked me to accompany her. To be honest, I wasn’t keen on going. Reluctantly, I agreed, thinking it would be a one-time favour. Our task was to deliver meals to people in and around the city. On that first outing, I was determined to view it as a single obligation. I didn’t feel the need to invest emotionally; I was simply doing it because my mum asked me to.

However, the following week, my mum once again needed someone to go with her. Once more, I joined her, still somewhat reluctantly. This time, however, something changed. As we made our deliveries, I noticed the relationships my mum and the other members had built with the people they served. One person struck up a conversation with me, and I found myself surprisingly engaged. I was more open than I had anticipated, and this interaction shifted my perspective on what I had initially seen as a chore.

As the weeks went on, I became more involved in the initiative. The initial reluctance I felt gave way to genuine enjoyment and fulfilment. I began to look forward to our weekly deliveries, not just for the service we provided but for the connections we made. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: even tasks that seem mundane or uninteresting can transform into rewarding experiences if approached with an open mind.

Through this journey, I realised that our attitude shapes our experiences. By choosing to see things in a positive light, we can uncover endless opportunities for growth and joy. What started as a favour for my mum evolved into a passion for helping others and making meaningful connections. This transformation showed me that sometimes, the things we resist can end up being the most rewarding if we allow ourselves to be open to the possibilities.

In sharing this story, I hope to inspire others to look beyond their initial reluctance and embrace new opportunities with an open heart. You never know how a seemingly small favour or chore can blossom into something truly enriching and joyful. It’s all about the perspective you choose and the willingness to see the potential in every experience.
