The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Visitation is a special gift we can be to others, especially to those who have no one.
Luke 1: 39 – 56
As we celebrate the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her cousin Elizabeth today, let us reflect on what it means to visit others.
Visiting others is a rich part of our Catholic tradition. We visit in friendship, for ministry, to offer service, to connect with someone or to evangelize.
Today Mary teaches us how to visit others. Her presence and greeting completely filled Elizabeth, and the child within her leapt for joy. Mary teaches us that we can transform and enliven those we reach out to. When we are the bearers of God’s love, we become agents of joy and peace. We bring comfort and hope to those to whom we reach out.
Mary reminds us that we can allow the Lord to use our hands, feet, voices and our presence as vessels of God’s love. Visitation is a special gift we can be to others, especially to those who have no one. May we allow ourselves to be instruments of peace and joy as Mary was.
