Too often how we move does not glorify God.
Mark 9:41-50
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”. I might add “and many an able-bodied man (and woman), are intent to follow it to their eternal ruin”. We are on a pilgrim journey to heaven, yet too often how we move does not glorify God. We think, talk and act in such a way as to make people question our Christianity or lose their own faith. Today’s Gospel tells us that something has to give. If anything jeopardises our entry to our heavenly home, then whatever it is has got to go.
Sometimes I try to imagine which part of me I would give up if I absolutely had to. Would it be my sight or my sense of smell? Would I prefer to lose an arm or a leg? It’s a tough question to ponder. But even tougher is the thought of losing the gift of eternal life. Are you ready to give up wholeness to go limping toward holiness?
God grant us the grace to desire it.
