“For whoever is not against us is for us.”
Mark 9: 38-41
This scripture should evoke some self-examination. How tolerant are we of others? Are we careful to avoid scandal by not trying to protect turf? How do we view others who may be doing great things for civilisation but may be of another religion, political party, and I dare to say, race?
I recently heard a statement that some people think that they have a monopoly on the Holy Spirit. It appears for a while, the disciples also thought so. They objected to the man casting out demons in Jesus’ name. Jesus chastised them because his mission was to liberate people from all forms of ‘demonic’ possession.
“Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.” There is power and freedom in this Spirit. This Spirit works in all people of goodwill. Attachment to power and prestige becomes an obstacle to discipleship. We can deteriorate and become no disciples or bad disciples.
Holy Spirit of God, blow and free us from attachments. Cause us to practice more inclusivity with all people.
