Join the excitement: The Catholic News Steps for Hope 5K and 1K Run/Walk

Are you ready to lace up your sneakers and hit the pavement for a cause? The Catholic News Steps for Hope 5K and 1K Fun Run and Walk this Saturday, May 11, promises to be an exhilarating event filled with camaraderie, excitement, and a chance to make a difference. Here’s everything you need to know to ensure you’re fully prepared for the big day:

Essential Preparations:

  • Gear up for success: Comfort is key! Make sure you have suitable clothing and well-fitted shoes to tackle the course with confidence, whether you are running, jogging, walking, or strolling.
  • Race bib collection: Don’t forget to collect your race bib beforehand at designated sites and dates. You can also come in earlier on the day to collect it. This ensures a smooth start on race day.
  • Know the route: Familiarise yourself with the course, which includes a scenic lap around the Savannah and a stretch along Hayes Street near QRC. Check out Bafasports.com website for this information.
  • Fuel up wisely: On race day, stick to familiar foods for lunch to avoid any unwanted surprises. Save the culinary adventures for after the finish line!
  • Arrive early: Plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before the race to secure parking and complete any last-minute preparations.
  • Parking and Safety: Parking is available near Archbishop’s House, QRC, and QPS, but remember to secure valuables and keep them out of sight. Safety first!
  • Event Schedule: The 1K for kids kicks off at 3.30 p.m., followed by the 5K at 4.30 p.m. Arrive on time to soak in the atmosphere and support fellow participants.

Race Day Tips:

  • Stay safe: Exercise caution when crossing the savannah roadway, utilising designated crossing points near QRC and Whitehall.
  • Hydration station: Two water stops along the course will keep you refreshed. Remember to stay hydrated for peak performance.
  • Pace yourself: Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a novice, find your rhythm and maintain a steady pace throughout the race. It’s a “marathon”, not a sprint!
  • Encouragement matters: Offer words of encouragement to fellow participants—it can make all the difference in their journey.
