The outpouring of God’s Grace
John 3:7b-15
Jesus says at the very beginning of today’s Gospel that we ‘must be born from above’. We know our true ‘birth’ is our Baptism. We are baptised in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
By this sacrament, the Church uses outward signs of water, light, oils and white garments to symbolise the outpouring of God’s grace inside of us. By our baptism we enter into the Body of Christ and receive the Holy Spirit empowering us to follow the call of God and to ‘blow wherever’ He pleases, wherever He leads us. We are now able to take part in Christ’s priestly, prophetic and kingly office. We are able to ‘lift up’ Jesus in our lives and in the lives of others and to offer the very healing touch of Jesus. We are able to truly believe, as Jesus promises us at the end of the Gospel passage that everyone who believes will have eternal life in Him.
O that I may truly come to ‘know these things’ Oh Lord!
