‘I am the handmaid of the Lord. ‘
Luke 1: 26-38
In today’s Gospel reading, we see Mary in a very difficult and confusing situation. She, a virgin, is told by the angel Gabriel that she is to bear a son. She was deeply disturbed.
We recall that Joseph, her husband, was put in a similar situation when he found out that Mary was pregnant. He wanted to divorce her.
We are put in such a position when we realise that we have a calling from God, not only to the religious life but it may be a calling to do something that will be beneficial to our sisters and brothers. It may mean total commitment.
Mother Teresa had such a calling. A parent may have to give up a job to take care of the children. Like Mary and Joseph, our decision should be to accept with Faith.
Lord, give me the faith to accept your will.
