Friday April 5th: Divine intervention

When we allow the risen Christ to be an integral part of our lives He transforms our emptiness into abundance, our despair into hope.

John 21: 1 – 14

Our passage, today, begins with the disciples, experienced fishermen, going fishing. Despite their skill and knowledge, they caught nothing. Just as dawn was breaking, a figure appeared to them on the beach, it was Jesus. They did not recognise Him at first. But when He asked if they caught anything and they answered no, He directed them to throw their net to starboard. And sure enough, they netted such a huge number of fish, 153 big fish.

The passage teaches us that we can easily succumb to emptiness and despair, as the disciples did. We can presume that our skill and knowledge alone are sufficient to get us through. But often times they only compound our horrible feelings.

The good news is, when Jesus intervenes, He brings the change we need. The disciples made an abundant catch only when Jesus came along and guided them to it. When we allow the risen Christ to be an integral part of our lives He transforms our emptiness into abundance, our despair into hope.
