Good Friday
One of the most important decisions we must make is to choose Jesus Christ over and above anyone or anything else.
John 18:1-19: 42
After questioning Him, Pilate wanted to set Jesus free because he found nothing that merited the death penalty. But the crowds objected. Despite Jesus’ innocence, they shouted: “Crucify Him!”, “Crucify Him!”
They chose the notorious criminal, Barabbas, over Jesus. The contrast between Jesus, the innocent and peaceful teacher, and Barabbas, the known criminal, highlights the injustice of the situation. And Pilate’s decision to hand Jesus over to be crucified, even against his better judgement, underscores the crowd’s manipulation and influence over him.
Crowds can easily sway us. They can manipulate us into believing and/or doing things we would not do on our own. It is important that Christians recognise our responsibility to act according to our proper conscience and decision and not simply go along with the crowd. God has given each one of us the gift of free will. We must exercise it responsibly when making decisions.
