Holy Thursday
Jesus washes his disciples’ feet.
John 13: 1-15
Jesus knew that he was going to return to the father from whom he came. Do we know that we are returning to God the Father when we die?
However, Jesus wanted to do something special to and for his disciples before he died. Therefore, on the day before he was arrested, beaten, convicted, mocked and nailed to a cross, he had supper with his twelve disciples (including the one who was going to betray him). Jesus washed their feet in spite of Peter’s objections. Jesus advised this as follows: “If I, then, the Lord and Master have washed your feet, you should wash each other’s feet.” Jesus wanted his disciples to do likewise before they died.
Reflecting on this, what special things do we want to do to, and for others, before we die? To be a follower of Jesus we must do as he did; serve and forgive, in the same way that he forgave even the people who crucified him.
