Awesome power, awesome pain

At the commencement of His ministry the sick and maimed He did heal,

And to many unclean spirits He did His sacredness reveal.

To His disciples, sweeping authority did He confidently give,

Freedom to harmlessly tread on scorpions and serpents, wherever they live.

Power also over forces of evil, regardless of their strength,

As they covered the land both by breadth and by length.

And when they returned reported with much joy and acclaim,

The success of their travels in calling on His name.

His teachings were revealing, replacing darkness with light,

Bringing commitment and comfort and a will to do what is right.

Opening-up hearts and minds and so His forgiveness seek,

And displaying His power so frightening and awesomely deep.

But then came Judas looking for silvery material gain,

And by his unholy act caused the believers so much pain.

Simply by that kiss, identifying the Redeemer for sure,

So that He could be removed from their presence for evermore.

Spitting on Him and labelling Him as the bearer of false news,

Not wanting to believe that He was that sacred King of the Jews.

Mocking Him on the way to that spot on Calvary Hill,

Then nailing Him to the Cross, saying it was the people’s will.

There was none other, who could such awesome pain bear,

But He knew what He was about, and His Father was near.

His was a price which only He could as a ransom pay.

Imagine being crucified for all the good things He did do and say.
