“Take not your Holy Spirit from me.”
Luke 4:16-21
In following the Bible in a Year Podcast from Ascension, I internalised what might be one of the saddest bible verses, from the story of Samson: “But he did not know that the Lord had left him.” (NIV Judges 16:20.)
A kind of fear strikes me when I think of going through this life without the Lord, and I echo the cry of the Psalmist, “Take not your Holy Spirit from me.” We have too much to deal with. We need God.
Today our Archdiocese celebrates the Chrism Mass, where our shepherds are invited to publicly renew their priestly promises and commitment to priestly service and the people of God. By virtue of our baptism, we are all called to be priest, prophet and king. We are all anointed and appointed to bring the good news to the poor, set the downtrodden free, and to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour.
May the Holy Spirit be with us always, so we can do that work to which we are sent.
