The Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) Youth & Vocation Commission announced the cancellation of the AEC Youth Assembly (AECYA) 2025, scheduled to take place in the Archdiocese of Castries from July 17–28, 2025, due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
A March 12 release undersigned by the Commission’s Chairman, Archbishop Kenneth Richards of Kingston, Jamaica said that after careful consideration and consultation with the Archdiocese and stakeholders, “we believe this is the most responsible course of action”.
The release said the Commission understands the disappointment this may cause to those who were eagerly anticipating the reemergence of AECYA 2025, and they sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.
The decision to cancel “was not made lightly”, but ultimately, “it is our responsibility to provide a Youth Assembly of the highest standard of organisation and content.”
The release conveyed “heartfelt gratitude” to everyone who was engaged in the planning and preparation AECYA 2025, as well as those who showed interest in attending. “Rest assured, we are exploring alternative options pending further developments and circumstances,” it said.
It stated that in deliberation with Officers of the AEC: Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon, President; Bishop John Persaud, Vice President; Bishop Robert Llanos, Treasurer; Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire of Castries; General Secretary Fr Donald Chambers and Archbishop Richards proposed to take the opportunity to enhance the leadership potential of more youth leaders in the Region as an expansion of the EQSAINTS Programme which began December 2023.
“The AEC Youth & Vocation Commission will explore the feasibility of this option. Updates will be communicated promptly,” the release said.
It ended stating the AEC Youth and Vocation Commission remains committed to delivering exceptional experiences “and we look forward to welcoming you to future events”.
