Friday March 15th: Peacemakers like Jesus

Jesus prioritised teaching and healing over unnecessary confrontations.

John 7: 1 – 2. 10. 25 – 30

Jesus was in two minds whether or not to go up to Jerusalem for the feast of Tabernacles. But after His brothers left, he went up as well, but quite privately, without drawing attention to Himself. Jesus’ initial reluctance to go up to Jerusalem was to avoid confrontation with the Jews who wanted to kill Him. But He thought better of it and went privately.

Jesus often demonstrated a keen awareness of timing. There were occasions when He openly challenged the authorities and there were occasions, He simply walked away.

Jesus prioritised teaching and healing over unnecessary confrontations. His primary mission was to bring salvation and reveal the kingdom of God. While He addressed conflicts when he needed to, He emphasized love, forgiveness, understanding, peace-building and welcome.

Jesus taught by example. His own life was that of a peacemaker and He praised those who could turn the other cheek. During this Lenten season examine our attitude to anger, confrontation, revenge and hostilities. This can be our opportunity to become peacemakers like Jesus.
