Sunday March 3rd: Reverence for the Sacred

“Take all this out of here and stop turning my Father’s house into a market.”

John 2:13‐25

In Today’s gospel we see not a gentle Jesus, but a man full of passion and a profound sense of righteousness and zeal for purity. The house of prayer had become a marketplace, prioritizing profit over devotion.

Our bodies are also the temple of God, and our own hearts can also become cluttered with distractions of the world, hindering our connection to God. Jesus is challenging us to cleanse our hearts, turning them back into places of prayer and devotion.

It is also a reminder that spiritual spaces should be revered and respected, and not become a space where we seek commercial benefits.

He also reveals his divinity by telling us that if we destroy this temple, he will build it up in three days.

Let us today examine our own reverence for sacred spaces, the depth of our faith, and the sincerity of our hearts when we go to God’s temple through either our physical presence in his temple, or our contemplative moments when we look into our hearts.
