Thursday February 29th: Lazarus and the unnamed rich man

“He knows my name.”

Luke 16:19-31

I’ve always found it rather remarkable that this gospel story mentions the poor man by name, yet this wealthy, probably very well known and influential man, was nameless.

It also says after his death Lazarus “was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham.”
However, the story merely states “the rich man also died and was buried.”

Knowing our name speaks of kinship and a sense of belonging.
We should strive to live so that our names could be written in the Book of Life.

Throughout scripture, we read about God calling so many people by their name. He called Abraham, Samuel, Moses, Saul and so many others. He knows our names. Do we answer when He calls?

May this season of Lent allow us to have a true Nineveh fasting experience; to repent and cry out for God’s mercy, before it’s too late.

Hopefully God will hear our cries and give us another chance.
Then, no longer strangers, our Father can once again call us by our name.
