“They do all their deeds to be seen by men.”
Matthew 23: 1-12
Brothers and sisters, the Appointed may not be Anointed. The scribes and Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat. Jesus stated, “Practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practice.” Are we occupying a seat of authority with a proud disposition and lack integrity, like the scribes and Pharisees? Is it all about ‘me’ and a quest for recognition? Jesus encourages us to avoid seeking titles but instead focus on serving others in humility.
The manifestation of a contentious, righteous, ‘better than you’ spirit, is revealed by controlled manipulation. Incongruence between words and actions. Jesus demonstrated a servant leadership style for us to follow.
We are all held accountable for our actions. If titles are stripped away from us, who will we be? Those who seek prestige will find shame, and those who seek humility will find honor. Jesus denounces Scribes and Pharisees. He publicly declared them to be wrong and evil, opposing their outward display of religious devotion. May we be mindful of how we lead.
