Saturday February 17th: Unplug

“Matthew Got up, left everything and followed him”.

Luke 5:27-32

Like a fresh wind, Jesus is moving and he is inviting us to follow him. Our spirits are willing to leave everything and follow but our flesh is weak. We experience the same Jesus that Matthew did through the Sacraments, so how is it that we can’t just get up at once, leave everything and follow Jesus like he did?
What separates Matthew from us, is that he was willing to unplug and follow Jesus unreservedly. Unplugging is very hard because we have gotten so used to our attachments to social media, other people and even food.
What makes Lent so special is that even if we are afraid or too weak to unplug, we are surrounded by a community of Christians who are unplugging and from this we can draw strength. We are not alone. In fact, the more we unplug, the less we are controlled by our pride, emotions and compulsive desires. We are also more likely to connect with others, our divine assignment and to God.
