Hundreds of couples from across the Diocese of Roseau converged on the host parish Our Lady of Fair Haven, Roseau, February 4, for the tenth anniversary celebration of World Marriage Day, Sunday, February 11.
Among the couples present was the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton and husband, “an encountered couple for over 25 years,” said a Dominica News Online report.
According to the online news source, the activity began with a Eucharistic celebration from 9 a.m. presided by Msgr William John-Lewis, Delegate of the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Roseau and Fr Nigel Karam, Dean of the Roseau Cathedral. A brunch reception and entertainment at the St Martin’s School grounds followed.
Couples from across the Diocese who celebrated ten years of marriage were recognised. Appreciation was expressed to couples who served in the Marriage and Engaged Encounter Ministries for ten years or more. Special recognition was also given to golden married couples, those married for more than 50 years, as well as an exemplary couple of the Cathedral parish.
World Marriage Day celebrations began in 1982. It celebrates husband and wife as the foundation of the family and the basic unit of society. The theme for World Marriage Day 2024 is Love Beyond Words emphasising the permanent, faithful, and fruitful love in a sacramental marriage is truly beyond words.
World Marriage Day 2024 is coordinated by the Worldwide Marriage Encounter and Catholic Engaged Encounter community, in collaboration with Our Lady of Fair Haven Cathedral parish and the Diocesan Family Life Commission.
