“For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, that person will save it”.
Luke 9:22-25
In this passage, Jesus does not paint any easy picture of discipleship. He insists that if we want to follow him, we must renounce ourselves and take up our crosses every day. He also paints a stark picture of someone who loses his or her own soul in pursuit of worldly possessions.
As we journey through this Lenten period, we are invited to reflect on the nature of our discipleship. If we are serious about following Jesus, then we must realize the journey is not an easy one as it is filled with various challenges we face daily. In fact, we must be prepared for opposition, rejection, even crucifixion, following in the footsteps of Jesus who led by example.
Lord, help us to be better disciples as we put ourselves at the service of others. Amen
