Friday February 2nd: Fulfilment, gratitude and faithfulness

The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.

Today, we can reflect on how our faith lives and journeys and see that we too can find fulfilment in our faith practice.

 Luke 2: 22 – 40

The feast of the Presentation of the Lord is marked by a deep sense of fulfilment. Joseph and Mary, taking the child Jesus up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord, signified the fulfilment of Jewish Law and the consecration of the firstborn to God. Both Simeon and Anna, present in the Temple at that time, find fulfilment in their being able to see God’s promised Messiah enter the Temple. And with great rejoicing Simeon expressed his deep gratitude to God in the Nunc Dimittis.

Fulfilment, gratitude and faithfulness are universal experiences, and they span time. Today, we can reflect on how our faith lives and journeys and see that we too can find fulfilment in our faith practice. When we uphold our own faith traditions, when we too can see God’s presence and actions even in the small things in life, when we can sing praises to God because he allows us to witness His blessings and graces, we too will have a deep sense of fulfilment and gratitude.
