“What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?”
Mark 5:1-20
The Gerasene demoniac fell at the feet of Jesus and shouted, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?” Let us reflect on the fact that the unclean spirit(s) recognized Jesus for who he is. If we are Christians, followers of Christ, what prevents us from always recognizing Jesus and from getting down on our knees to honour and pray to him?
Secondly, Jesus commanded the spirit to come out of the demoniac. The unclean spirit felt threatened when confronted by Jesus and begged not to be tortured. Jesus is the true light that dispels the darkness of evildoers and transforms people like Saul into Paul.
Thirdly, the unclean spirits begged Jesus to be sent into the pigs. If Jesus listened to that request, would he not answer our request and grant mercy and forgiveness when we ask humbly and respectfully on our knees?
Jesus told the man who was cleansed to go home and tell others what the Lord in his mercy had done. We too are called to give testimony!
