Sunday January 28th: He taught them with authority

I know who you are, the Holy one of God

Mark 1:21-28

The teaching of Jesus made a deep impression, and he taught them with authority, the authority bestowed upon him by God. This authority was not authoritative, it bore light, love, healing and victory. Today, we are challenged to fearlessly proclaim what we were baptized and sent to accomplish. Many evil spirits are luring around and devouring our people, especially our youth. The healing of our nation can only be possible through the divine authority of Jesus. We are called to fearlessly bear the message of the Holy One of God. Jesus declared sharply, “Come out of him!” With deep conviction and authority, let us declare: Come out of our hearts! Come out of our homes! Come out of our land!

The rise of worldly authoritative leaders is destroying lives. Capernaum was Jesus’ own city where he was well known, and his reputation was par excellence. Today, we reflect on the questions: Who are our community leaders? What are the dominant reputations and deep impressions that are rapidly spreading?

Lord, we recognize you as the Holy One of God, reveal to us your divine perspective and may our hearts pursue your Holy Will.
