Ageing? Ageing? Growing? “Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you…” (Is 46.4).
It was an enthusiastic group of persons 60+ that assembled late last year at Javouhey Hall, St Joseph’s Convent, Arouca from South, North and East. Some strangers left as friends.
The programme was facilitated by Sr Annette Chow SJC who introduced the theme I will sing of the goodness of God. To deepen our spirituality as we grow older, we were invited to recall one incident when we could sing of the goodness of God. This was an interesting exchange bringing some laughter and humour. We realised we were not alone on this beautiful, spirit-filled, ageing journey.
Leonora de Verteuil then invited us to become contemplatives through silence and meditation followed by a very vibrant and intriguing reflection on some dos and don’ts led by Sr Genevieve Baptiste SJC.
We shared on the aspects which challenged us most. We were reminded to be cheerful and encouraged to think positively about change. Many of us have challenges with the advancement of technology but we must accept and learn from those around us.
To see how we can learn from Nature, we were given a leaf to contemplate and to share in triads our reflection. The next session had us excited as we were taught dance movements to the theme song led by Kandice, a dance teacher from St Xavier’s Private School, St Joseph.
It was a day of prayer, reflection, fun, humour, and joy, helping us to continue to grow in love in our golden years.
