On Sunday January 21, the ‘Lector Family’ of Our Lady of Fatima, Curepe gathered to commemorate the Sunday of the Word of God, which is observed by the universal Church on the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time.
After worshipping together at the morning Mass where they received a special blessing, members of the Lector Ministry who proclaim the Word across all the liturgies (weekends, mornings, Thursdays mid-morning), youth, as well as Lay Ministers who are specially imparted with the Ministry of Lectors, participated in the ritual Enthronement of the Bible, following the format provided by The Catholic News in their online article of January 17, 2020.
Parish priest and biblical scholar, Dr Fr Arnold Francis then gave a brief explanation of the origin of the Sunday of the Word of God, followed by a sharing of the theme for this year, Remain in My Word (Jn 8:31).
Breakfast fellowship followed by an animated and enthusiastic discussion about growing the Lector Ministry brought the morning to a satisfying conclusion. All attendees departed with a copy of the pastoral on the Sunday of the Word of God by Pope Francis, as well as a list of practical resources to remain in the Word in 2024. —Natalie Jacob
