Sunday of the Word
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent and believe the gospel.”
Mark 1:14-20
After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee and walking along by the sea he encountered and engaged the lives of several persons, inviting them to follow Him. Only recently, I have been reflecting upon the number of families I know personally, whose children have been arrested and are currently in prison.
It also pained me to reflect upon this because I’ve realized that in many ways, I have been called by God to proclaim the Good News that is at hand – liberty to captives – and I haven’t followed this invitation with the quickness that is described in the Gospel passage. I have noticed, that in wanting a life full of positive and perfect experiences, I rarely encounter and engage persons and the challenging aspects of their lives, bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to them.
Today, let us renew our call to discipleship and seek out all those on the journey of life who need to be evangelized by the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ.
