Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, ‘… be clean!’
Mark 1:40-45
Leprosy, as a disease, not only afflicted the man’s body but also isolated him from his community. So, the touch of Jesus is a transformative power, not only creating physical cleansing, but restoring the man’s dignity, inclusion, and belonging.
Jesus’ touch holds a profound lesson for us today. In these times, while we may not face leprosy, many among us carry wounds—wounds of trauma, grief, isolation, rejection, and pain. We live in a world where people often feel alienated, marginalized, ignored, or deemed unworthy. Jesus, through his touch, teaches us of the healing power of compassion and the importance of reaching out to those on the margins.
Jesus’ touch challenges us to examine our own lives. Do we extend our hands in compassion to those who are hurting or excluded? Are we willing to touch the lives of others, not just with physical gestures but with genuine empathy and care? We are called to be agents of healing, through acts of love and acceptance.
