‘You are my Son, the Beloved, my favour rests on you. ‘
Mark. 1: 7-11
This gospel passage teaches us about, among other things, the humility of John the Baptist and the work of God the Father. John realizes that Jesus is greater than he is, and that what he is doing is the work of God.
This is a great example for us. We were baptized with water and the Holy Spirit came down upon us, and when we do the works of God by word or deed, God’s favour rests on us. We are children of God and that is why at Mass we can sing the hymn, “Sons of God.’
We have had examples of the saints like St. Francis of Assisi, Mother Theresa and others like Fr. Gerard Pantin who started Servol, bringing love to the underprivileged. May we all behave like beloved children of God.
Lord, help me to realise that when I help my neighbour, God’s favour rests on me.
