Monday January 1st: Solemnity of Mary

As for Mary, she treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Luke 2: 16 – 21

Happy New Year!

It is that time of the year when personal reflection and introspection are the order of the day leading up to the wish list of resolutions for the year ahead.

As we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, I wonder, did Mary even hesitate to think of the consequences of her decision, how it would “blow up” the life she knew? Or was her trust so unwavering that she knew God would work it out.

At a seminar, the speaker suggested we list the top 5 most important things in life and next to each the time spent for the week. Not surprisingly, they were not aligned.

Today, I thank God for the blessing of another year, and I pray that I can deepen my trust in the Lord during this coming year so that I can put Him first and know that everything else will fall in line.

Amen.
