Friday December 22nd: Responding to His loving presence

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.”

Luke 1: 46 – 56

Today we hear Mary proclaiming the greatness of the Lord and rejoicing in Him because the Lord has done wonderful things in her life. Mary recognised God’s presence and action in her life, and she responded with praise and thanksgiving.

Advent is a time when we purposefully prepare for the Lord’s coming, in a special way, into our hearts and lives. We remove obstacles and straighten the way so that the Lord will not have any difficulty entering. God, for His part, never disappoints. He comes to us, fills us and remains with us. What is our response to His loving presence?

If we are like Mary, we too will proclaim His greatness and sing out His praises. What better way to celebrate God than with a joyful life. After all, the glory of God is a human person fully alive.

Let us imitate Mary’s joy by rejoicing in God who makes our lives great, wonderful and blessed. Without a doubt, God has looked upon and lifted us up.
