DOMINICA
Dominica has been “wrecked” with negative verbal comments throughout the year that have affected the very young unpatriotic minds.
This was the view of Fr Elveau Augustine in a newsletter from the St Ann’s Roman Catholic Church titled ‘National Pride – A new mental and verbal approach to National Building’ dated October 8.
Fr Augustine said such comments came from “so-called persons who claim to be patriotic.” The full copy of the newsletter was attached to an article via Dominica News Online (DNO).
He said that nowhere in the world is anything perfect, but Jamaicans, Barbadians and other nationals of other territories know how to glorify their country despite the “economic mess” they are in.
“This is different in Dominica. We come down with raw criticism, without even making a positive suggestion or even acknowledging some good. This is malicious and most times politically motivated,” the newsletter reported.
Fr Augustine said words have power and the murders and accidents that have become so frequent are “co-related to the negative sentiments that have been infiltrating their psyche and affecting their spirit. It has left a psychological and spiritual curse that has played out in what we see and hear today.”
He then called for people to set a new map for the way forward.
“Let us start being more objective and while we condemn the bad, promote the good.”
