Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb.” 

Luke 1: 39-47

How beautiful and spirit-filled is the conversation between Mary and Elizabeth!  We are told that Mary “went with haste” to greet Elizabeth and, even more astonishingly, John the Baptist, still within the womb of his mother, Elizabeth, joins in the conversation.  How?  John moves within Elizabeth’s womb, thereby immediately anointing her with the Holy Spirit.  She is promptly filled with Wisdom to recognize the divine presence of Jesus within the womb of Mary, as well as recognizing Jesus as her Lord and long-awaited Saviour!
Since that time, there has not been, nor will there ever be, any discourse so laden with miracles, as that which took place between Mary and Elizabeth at the Visitation.
Both women are filled with Joy; they are pregnant with Joy and give jubilant praise to God.  Then Mary sings her great hymn of praise to Yahweh!  She proclaims that her whole being is ordered to the glorification of God. Mary magnifies the Lord and the Lord is magnified in her.
So should we all be.
