Saturday December 9th: Bringing others to God

‘The harvest is rich, but the labourers are few.’

Matthew 9: 35 – 10: 1, 5a, 6 – 8

In today’s gospel, Jesus tells us that the harvest is rich, but the labourers are few. We have a whole world before us but there are not enough of us who are bringing people to God.

We normally think that it is the work of the clerics alone to bring people to God, but we need to realise that Jesus is talking to all of us. Jesus summoned twelve disciples and sent them out on a mission. We too are summoned and are given the authority to assist others in various ways.

There are those of us who join ministries and organisations of the Church and so evangelise and help others in several ways, like feeding the poor, conducting R.C.I.A. classes, giving Communion to the sick, and so we give without charge.

Lord, give me that courage to be a labourer in the harvest.
