St Andrew, Apostle.
“Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.”
Matthew 4:18-22
Andrew was a fisherman who left his fishing to follow Jesus. Jesus promised to make Andrew and his brother Simon, “fishers of men”.
I went out in an open fishing boat once. I was placed in a dangerous situation exposed to the elements of the scorching sun, rain, chill, high waves and sea creatures. I promised never to make that trip again! Hence, I learned that Andrew had to be strong and fearless, trusting in God out on the lake or sea. Jesus knew the reason why he chose him.
According to Georgetown University Library, (https://librarygeorgetown..edu>vault)
Andrew converted multitudes to Christianity including the wife of a Roman Provincial Governor in Southern Greece. The Governor in turn, immediately ordered Andrew to be scourged and then crucified.
How did Andrew convert so many people after three years as an apprentice to Jesus? Without a doubt, Andrew practised fearlessly, what he was taught. Do we, as Christians, also practise to forgive like Jesus; have pity like Jesus; love like Jesus?
