Catholic schools placed in nine out of ten places in the schools ranked 1 – 10 in the National Parang Association of Trinidad and Tobago Junior Parang competition primary category.
The competition was held at Bishop Anstey High School, Port of Spain, November 18.
The highest-ranked RC school was Sacred Heart Girls’ RC which placed second and was edged out of first place by Morvant Anglican by four points. St Peter’s RC Primary and Nelson Street Boys’ RC tied for third, and Newtown Boys’ RC and Newtown Girls’ RC rounded out the top five.
Sacred Heart also had the best female vocalist – Azariah Frederick. Catholic primary schools shone bright with musical ability, the best cuatro player was Aisaiah Sandy from 7th placed school San Raphael RC, and best box bass player was Liam Gibson from 10th placed Pt Fortin RC, while Arima Boys’ RC had the best marac player, Brandon John.
A combined group of Bishop Anstey Port of Spain and Queen’s Royal College were first in the secondary category, held the following day, Sunday 19, at the same venue.
The highest place Catholic secondary school was Holy Name Convent, Port of Spain. They were followed by St Mary’s College in 3rd position and 4th St Joseph’s Convent (SJC), St Joseph. St Charles’ High School placed 6th and Providence Girls’,10th.
The best male vocalist was St Mary’s Jalan Maugh who also copped the best cuatro player. SJC St Joseph earned the best lead instrument player and best dressed.
