Return of Santa Claus Parade

After a three-year hiatus, The Santa Claus Parade is back! Now in its 12th year, the parade is the major fundraiser for the Grant-a-Wish Foundation which grants wishes to children who suffer with life-threatening illnesses. To date, 52 wishes have been granted inclusive of three wishes to children in Grenada.

In addition to supporting the Foundation, the parade seeks to bring the goodwill and magic of Christmas to all peoples and to foster community service through volunteerism.

The Foundation has also undertaken two initiatives, the first being ‘Kick Cancer to the Curb’ which hopes to show the positive survival rate and the longevity of life with this disease. The month of November is pancreatic and lung cancer month, and this is depicted in the colours of purple and white on their pink tee-shirts.

The second initiative is the installation of a play area at the Oncology Clinic at Mt Hope Hospital where the children could enjoy a measure of relief after their visit to the clinic.

This year, the parade promises to be better than ever with three marching bands, a live Nativity, angels, King Arthur’s knights on horses (Police Mounted Branch), clowns, elves and of course Santa on his sleigh and much more.

The show features Soca Parang Queen, Marcia Miranda, excerpts from Broadway, gymnastics, bouncy castles, face painting, and balloons and carnival snacks.

The parade starts on November 19 at Trinidad Theatre Workshop #6 Newbold Street, St Clair and ends at the National Scout Headquarters, St Ann’s.

Early bird tickets are $75 which includes entrance, refreshments and game chits. Entrance only on the day is $20.

If you wish to join the parade, tee-shirts are $150. Tickets are available at The Planters’ Bay, St James; Trinidad Theatre Workshop, St Clair; and The Party Inn, El Dorado, Tunapuna, and East Gates Mall.
