In addressing the role of women in the Church, the recently concluded Synod on Synodality Synthesis Report recognises the significance of accompanying and understanding women in all aspects of their lives including sacramental realms.
It acknowledges that women often face challenges like violence and economic inequality emphasising the need for a commitment to address these issues through supporting women pastorally and advocating for their rights should go hand in hand (Vatican News Synod Report, October 28, 2023).
In a world filled with change and uncertainty it is more crucial than ever to embrace our dignity, vocation, and mission as women. The Growing in Grace Women’s Ministry wholeheartedly responds to this call by providing women with a path to deepen their faith and gain a better understanding of their roles in today’s complex world.
Coordinated by Bernadette Patrick since its establishment in 2015, this ministry builds upon the Women of Grace Foundational Study Programme. This programme aims to take women on a journey of self-discovery helping them uncover their essence and purpose bestowed upon them by God.
The Growing in Grace Women’s Ministry invites women to explore their genuine femininity, which is especially relevant, in today’s challenging times. This transformative programme was created by Johnnette Benkovic-Williams, the founder and president of Women of Grace.
One notable aspect of the ministry is its focus on engaging with parishes. After completing the Full of Grace Study Series participants can continue gathering as parish groups. These gatherings not only enrich the lives of those involved but also empower women to contribute effectively to lay ministries within their parishes, offering valuable support under the guidance of their priests. The programme has been completed in six parishes/groups with over 200 graduates.
The ministry’s commitment to theological exploration and spiritual growth has attracted esteemed speakers to annual conferences. Past conferences have featured notable figures like the Apostolic Nuncio, clergy, Benkovic-Williams, Kitty Cleveland, and other dedicated laywomen from the Women of Grace Graduate Programme.
Following our journey, through the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, we are delighted to announce that the Growing in Grace Women’s Ministry will be hosting its Annual Conference on Sunday, November 26, 2023. The conference will be held at the Arouca Parish Hall. We warmly invite all women to join us in celebrating our faith and shared path.
Additionally, the ministry is launching a new initiative in 2023—the Women of Grace Foundational Study Programme Online. This program is offered free of charge; participants only need to cover the cost of the study workbook and the Full of Grace book. Registered participants will gain exclusive access to study videos presented by Benkovic-Williams.

The Growing in Grace Women’s Ministry warmly invites women from all walks of life to join us on a journey of faith, empowerment, and sisterhood. We are excited to share this transformative experience with you and celebrate together the beauty that comes with embracing womanhood.
