‘Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.”
Luke 12:49-53
Sometimes in our lives we must make some really hard decisions when we follow Jesus. Nobody wants to be cut off from their loved ones, however, we are responsible for our choices about where we spend our eternity.
I must admit, this declaration made by our Lord had me confused for a long time. However, as I continue to examine the scriptures, I read that God also speaks of separating the sheep from the goats, the wheat from the darnel, even spitting out the lukewarm. “Whose side are you leaning on?” I ask myself as I examine my own conscience.
We are all called to serve Him, to choose Him: even if it should mean being separated from our family members and relatives. Living for Him is more important than any other mortal love or commitment.
Prayer: Open our eyes, O Lord, that we may follow Your word and choose to be among those seated at Your right hand. O set our hearts on fire for You, O Lord, to bring Your light to the world.
