Without Worrying or Fretting
Luke 10: 38 – 42
Let us focus on Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus listening to His words, in awe of Him. She is assuming a posture of listening, of a student sitting at the feet of her rabbi, a role traditionally reserved for men. Mary is not assuming the role expected of women in her culture or of women in her family, demonstrated by from Martha’s protests….yet…she sits. She receives.
This mirrors the aptitude of our on-going Synod process. We are called to listen with the ear of our heart, without worrying and fretting ‘about so many things’. We are called to be still in the Lord’s presence and hear His Word. We are called to enter into a process of discernment. Women are being allowed to assume a new role in the process for the first time. Really only one thing is needed – attention to our Guest, who is also our Host. We are called to be the fullness of Him who fills all creation.
