“The Lord appointed seventy-two and sent them out ahead of him in pairs.”
Luke: 10: 1-12
Labourers are few; lambs among wolves; take no purse, bag or sandals; do not talk to anyone along the way; few friends; eat or drink whatever is given, do not move from house to house.
The Way is hard: little friends, no attachments, little pleasure and comfort, risk of being abused, mistreated, and misunderstood. Lord who can make it!?
Jesus must have been very compelling, that despite this insane job description, they all accepted. Perhaps they did not know what they were truly getting into, but with each step, God gave them grace.
So it is with us. Many reading, or listening can relate to some if not all of this “job description” yet Jesus spoke of peace. Why?
The inner war that rages by concupiscence, is silenced by self-denial and mortification.
The journey of evangelization is also a journey to holiness.
Your blessing will never be lost on this dusty road for the kingdom of God has come.
